CSUITEMUSIC, LLC is proud to serve as Executive Producers for the forthcoming docuseries The Story of Soul Beat, in collaboration with Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions. This highly anticipated three-part series tells the untold story of Soul Beat, America’s first Black-owned cable network, which emerged from Oakland, California, in the late 1970s.
Under the visionary leadership of Chuck Johnson, Sr., Soul Beat amplified Black voices, revolutionized media representation, and became a cultural hub for icons like Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Eazy-E, and more. Through candid interviews, rare archival footage, and in-depth storytelling, the docuseries chronicles the network’s rise, its struggles amidst systemic and financial challenges, and its lasting legacy in shaping Black media and hip-hop culture.
This powerful narrative is brought to life by an exceptional team, including Geraldine Poras, an award-winning producer known for We Need to Talk About Cosby and Hulu’s Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told. Together, we aim to shine a spotlight on this pivotal yet overlooked chapter in American media history.
Currently in development, The Story of Soul Beat will serve as a compelling exploration of ambition, resilience, and the rich cultural contributions of Black-owned media. Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking series that celebrates the legacy of a lost Black renaissance.
